114 years – Technique made of plastic and metal

History

1909

Founding of the company Kürbi & Niggeloh in Barmen-Rittershausen on February 1st by Wilhelm Kürbi and Carl Niggeloh. The first products were tri-pods, music stands, hat racks and postcard racks.

1912

Moving to the new headquarters in Radevormwald.

1919

The brand name BILORA was registered as trade mark. The name is a combination of three names: KürBI, NiggeLOh and RAdevormwald.

1935

The first camera was launched. The BILORA-Box hit the one million sales mark in 1956.

1961

The first plastic molding machine was purchased in July 1961. Plastic has become more and more a high-quality material, which was in many areas preferred to metal. The production of plastic components was less expensive compared to metal. The main benefits of the high-grade plastic injection molding were little or no post processing, finished surfaces, light weight and the elimination of assembly steps. Gradually, other metal parts were replaced by plastic parts resulting in significant cost savings. Amongst the first products manufactured were dishes for tripods.

1965

Plastic processing gained importance. Not only at BILORA, but world-wide. Hence more and more companies commission BILORA to manufacture plastic and metal components for their products. This is the beginning of a new business unit, providing customized products for OEM as a contract manufacturer.

1977

Start of the construction of the manufacturing plant in the Mermbacher Strasse. The new plant covers 16.000 sqm. The modern plastic injection molding plant with production, storage and shipping meets the latest technology standards.

1992

In the early 1990s, the growth of the contract manufacturing business has led to a need for further production space. The production hall on Mermbacher Strasse was expanded. A new basement with of 4,000 sqm became the home of the tool workshop and storage.

1995

Since the 1990s, the modernization and extension of the production capacity has increased constantly. Until today BILORA invests continuously in the latest production technology, such as CAD / CAM, in employee know how as well as in a modern and certified quality assurance. The majority of the 40 plastic injection molding machines are equipped with automated take-out robots and advanced controls. The raw material preparation is managed centrally over a drying system with vacuum distribution.

2016

The company was renamed to BILORA Kunststofftechnik GmbH.

The change took place to emphasize the new focus on plastic molding. To meet the changing customer requirements and keep the production technology state-of-the art, an Arburg 470C incl. extraction motor and a CNC machine with a working space of 1.000mm x 560mm x 600mm were purchased.

2021

The decision made in summer 2020 to have the company certified according to the environmental standard DIN EN ISO 14001: 2015 was successfully completed in March 2021.

BILORA is today a full-service provider offering an end-to-end service, from design & development, to advice on tool manufacturing & maintenance, production of modules and additional services such as assembly, printing and just-in-time logistics.
